Japanese Scissors: A Tale of Craftsmanship and Limited Production

Japanese Scissors: A Tale of Craftsmanship and Limited Production

Posted by Le Grand Admin on

Japanese scissors are renowned for their exceptional cutting performance, a result of meticulous hand finishing by skilled craftsmen. The process involves hand-polishing the blade surfaces and adjusting the alignment of the contact surfaces to ensure a perfect fit. This attention to detail highlights the quality and effort put into making Japanese scissors, making them a preferred choice for many.

In recent times, the production of Japanese scissors has become increasingly limited, with only a few places left where these high-quality scissors can be made. Despite requiring the same level of skill and effort as making a kitchen knife, Japanese scissors are often more affordably priced. This pricing strategy is partly due to the focus of knife craftsmen on processing knives, which can be more profitable.

Another factor contributing to the scarcity of Japanese scissors is the comparison to cheaper scissors made outside of Japan. These scissors can be mass-produced using only machine processing, which may result in products that lack the sharpness and durability of their Japanese counterparts.

Despite these challenges, several Japanese companies are capable of manufacturing scissors, and their products can be found in retail stores across the United States. However, the demand for these scissors within Japan limits the quantity available for export to the USA.

To secure a sufficient supply of Japanese scissors for sale in the USA, we personally visit each Japanese scissor factory and engage in discussions with them. This hands-on approach ensures that we can offer our customers the highest quality Japanese scissors available, maintaining our commitment to excellence and craftsmanship.
